Yearbook of environmental data

In 2006, the public sector's environmental protection expenditure amounted to about EUR 1.2 billion in Finland, divided almost evenly between the central and local governments. Industry invested EUR 142 million, or 3.4 per cent of its fixed investments, in environmental protection. In addition, industry incurred EUR 507 million operating expenditure from environmental protection. These data derive from Statistics Finland's new publication Environment Statistics Yearbook 2008.

Environment Statistics Yearbook is an annually published general overview of the environment. It contains a collection of statistics describing the effects from human activities on the environment and the actions society has taken to protect it.

The topics covered in this 216-page publication include greenhouse gas emissions and other emissions to air, burdening of waters, waste, agriculture and forestry, total material requirement, transport, energy, environmental taxation, environmental protection expenditure and attitudes of citizens to environmental issues. Apart from data concerning Finland, the Yearbook also contains copious comparison data from other industrialised countries.

The Environment Statistics Yearbook is in two languages, Finnish and English. It is accompanied by a CD-ROM containing all the publication's data in Finnish and English.
