19/03/2009 - WELLINGTON: Stock exchange operator NZX's carbon market unit took a major step forward on Wednesday with the launch of a global registry system.
NZX subsidiary TZ1's VCS (Voluntary Carbon Standard) Registry is now able to issue, transfer and retire voluntary carbon units (VCUs). TZ1 was picked as a global registry for VCS last year, and is one of three such registries.
TZ1 chief executive Mark Franklin said the development was something people around the world had been waiting for.
