8/01/2009 - Kaolin miner Minerals Corporation Ltd has begun commercial production of a new cement binder product that it says will slash the amount of carbon emitted in the cement making process.
Minerals Corporation said its KAOCEM product had been independently certified to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent.
It said cement was the world's third largest polluter of carbon emissions, after power generation and vehicles, producing about two billion tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Cement industry hit hard by emissions scheme:senator
18/12/2008 - The federal opposition says the cement industry will be hard-hit by the government's proposed emissions trading scheme.
Queensland Nationals senator Ron Boswell said a proposed $1 billion cement plant at Gladstone in central Queensland could be put at risk.
Senator Boswell said the emissions scheme could also cost the industry, which is vital to the construction of major projects, an extra $20 million a year.
