Muzzled Australians Gain a Voice on ETS
The Australian Environment Foundation today launched an online petition opposing the federal government’s “Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme”. The petition will eventually be presented to Parliament by Dr Dennis Jensen, MHR for Tangney.
AEF Chair Dr Jennifer Marohasy said there is a strong need for the petition because none of the major political parties are offering an alternative to carbon trading.

Electricity sector calls for "pass through" clause for ETS
8/8/08:
Electricity companies intend to pass on any extra costs they face under an emissions trading scheme (ETS) while also accepting compensation from the Rudd government.
Clauses for "carbon adjustment" were now being added to future electricity supply contracts, according to a Fairfax report on Thursday.
A lobby group also says the move will see the coal-fired sector pass on the cost of tackling climate change to the consumer.

Climate change represents the biggest business opportunity for global giant GE over the coming decades, the company's Australian and New Zealand chief executive Steve Sargent says.
"For us, we look at this (climate change) as the biggest business opportunity of the century," Sargent told an American Chamber of Commerce in Australia lunch in Melbourne on Thursday.

Origin calls for LNG exemption from emissions trading

Origin Energy Ltd said it would be a winner when emissions trading scheme is introduced in 2010 because it uses gas to generate electricity, which is cleaner than coal.
Australia's second largest energy retailer on Wednesday supported moves by Woodside Petroleum Ltd, urging the federal government to give free carbon trading permits to the liquified natural gas (LNG) sector.

The reality of seeking to cut greenhouse pollution is only now starting to sink in.
The federal government wants to introduce emissions trading, which will put a price on carbon to try and force people to live greener lives, in two years' time.
The scheme could pose a major challenge for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his colleagues.
