Attendees at the inaugural Deutsche Bank Leadership Forum, entitled “Business opportunities in addressing climate change”, came away with a distinct sense of urgency and a realisation that climate change is a serious problem that requires immediate and concerted action. On the day, more than 120 clients (principally represented at the Chairman, CEO and Board level) from diverse industries and from around the world, participated in engaging and challenging discussions.

Over the next five years, Deutsche Bank has committed to reduce its global carbon footprint by 20 percentage points every year compared to its 2007 base year in order to neutralize CO2 emissions of its worldwide operations by 2012.

Deutsche Bank's Asset Management division publishes major climate change research
Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM) today published a research paper arguing that the accelerating pace of global warming will force governments to invest more heavily in climate change mitigation and adaptation despite the financial setbacks of the current market crash. "Investing in Climate Change 2009 - Necessity and Opportunity in Turbulent Times," authored by DeAM's Global Climate Change Investment Research team, provides a detailed analytical framework for understanding the opportunities for investing in climate change. But it also says that an economic downturn offers governments across the developed world a prime opportunity to boost their spending on 'green' infrastructure as a stimulus to avoid severe recession.

Deutsche Bank has been voted the world’s No.1 dealer of Certificates of Emissions Reductions (CERs) by clients. The survey was conducted by Risk’s Environmental Risk magazine. The award confirms Deutsche Bank as the market leader in the fast growing market for emission products. CER certificates can be used by governments to help them meet their Kyoto Protocol targets, and by companies such as power generators who are subject to the European Union’s Emission Trading Scheme.
